About Us

We’re George and Cecilia, the current owners of “Ring of Kerry”   We currently live in Hull, MA where we are restoring Ring of Kerry  and plan to move aboard in the late fall of 2018.

12716443_10205626280513202_4693564187025538197_oOur story is just beginning.  We bought Ring of Kerry (we call her ROK for short, something we picked up from the previous owners) in 2016 and while we feel we have come a long way in restoring her already, we know that  the work is just beginning and so are the adventures.

I’m Cecilia, and I’m the primary editor of this site.  I’ve been sailing with my parents since I was in Junior High School.  My parents bought a Catalina 30 named “Sea Girt” which we sailed as a family in Maine for years.  When I was older, they sold Sea Girt and bought a C&C 40 (“Cadenza”) and which they still sail today.    I spent lots of time on both Sea Girt and Cadenza (including living 10631070_10204381483998012_5350467797819298166_o.jpgaboard Cadenza in Constitution Marina in Boston for a winter) I was always a deck hand while my father captained the boat.  I had a few turns at the helm, but never felt comfortable taking sailing lesson’s from my Dad so I looked elsewhere.  I have taken the Blue Water Sailing School week-long “Bare Boat Charter” course twice as an adult  and George and I owned a Freedom 30 (Helen E) which we sailed together for 5 years prior to buying Ring of Kerry.

George is a lifetime ocean lover who grew up on rivers and beaches of Massachusetts’ south shore.  He has dreamed of owning a boat for decades but didn’t realize that he was 14192669_10206891566504561_5286397673628660627_na sailor until he joined me on my parents boat in Maine for a weekend.  After he was hit with the sailing bug, he took the week-long Bare Boat Charter class in the USVI’s (I joined him, which is why I’ve taken it twice) and we bought our first sailboat “Helen E ” (the Freedom 30).   George was the captain of Helen E until her sale in the fall of 2016.

Both George and I are hard workers with complementary skills.  We intend to do as much of the work as we possibly can on our own and will hire professional help when it makes sense to do so.   The list is long and the work is hard, but the rewards will be tremendous in the end.

Boomer is our Golden Retriever and all beloved “boat dog”.  Boomer enjoys snoozing, sniffing the wind, and trotting around with is dad on tcropped-19225787_10209132568448209_574648838849632204_n.jpghe occasional beach or rocky shoal.  Not an athlete,  we’ve grown accustomed to boosting him up to and off  of the boat, up and down the companionway and catering to his every little whim,  because he is awesome and we love him.   Boomer is a member of the “destroyers” club and can rip the squeaker from any dog toy in  record time.
